From Microwaves & RF UPDATE October 21, 2005:

ARRL Asks FCC To Shut Down Manassas BPL System

Last issue, it was reported that Manassas, VA had gone to a full-scale broadband over powerline (BPL) communications system for high-speed internet access over power lines. In response to the full-scale deployment of the system, and the effects of its interference on other radio systems, the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) has asked the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to instruct the city to shut down the system. Communications Technologies (COMTek) operates the system for the city over the municipally owned electric power grid. ARRL cites the system as a source of harmful interference for amateur radio operators and "is not compliant with applicable FCC Part 15 regulations" according to the ARRL's 16-page filing with the FCC. A copy of the ARRL's
filing with the FCC is available on the ARRL web site.
